Artist Statement

I design furniture because I have a passion for three-dimensional objects. I love the basic and functional concept behind this everyday household art form. I create to discover unique design, and enjoy the practicality that is always present in furniture. Functionality plays an important role in my drafting and creative stages. Design is also a main concern when carrying out an idea as I continuously try to enhance the overall look and concept of a piece. I begin by sketching shapes and forms. Then I quickly move into model making which allows me to physically tweak the concept to fully develop my idea. This allows me to take a project to a more refined level before creating the final piece. After completing a project my personal goal is to amaze the viewer to the point that they are unsure of my processes or techniques of construction.

When assembling a piece of furniture, I strive to use a variety of materials. My goal is to combine them to create a complete functional object. The furniture I design emphasizes a clean, sleek appearance. Over the past few years I have worked to perfect my use of many materials and ways of working. When finishing a piece, I value the natural beauty and quality of its components. A high degree of craftsmanship and close attention to detail are of my utmost priorities.

My current work is in opposition to my past, as I stretch the boundaries of the materials. I have been working with multiples and utilizing more technical means of fabrication with computerized 3D rendering programs and a CNC router. With the knowledge that I am gaining from all areas of production I am confident in my ability to create and explore with endless possibilities.
